For what it's worth, the local smith figured out the problem that caused that weird barrel alignment issue. It turns out my indexing pin was deformed in a weird way that forced a slight misalignment. Replacing not only the pin, but also the insert it fits into seems to have resolved the issue.

AR2225 is Retumbo, as Seddo mentioned. I didn't try AR2217, though perhaps I should have started there.
