Barrel Lock Question

Post by Seddo »

Hi guys,

When i was putting away my SRS after it last range session i noticed i had been firing it without the barrel lock engaged. I mentioned it to a gunsmith i was talking to and he said it shouldnt be an issue to shoot it without the lock engaged, as far as he can see its only there as a second safety incase the 4 bolts holding the barrel fail .

Whats the offical DTA position on this issue? What doesnt the bolt lock actually do?

I almost never have my barrel lock engaged. Thousands of rounds that way. I can't see it being an issue.

Orkan, thanks the type of answer i was hoping for.

The lack of setback ability on a DTA barrel has made me build a couple of new rifles since owning the SRS. I cant see the throat lasting too long on my 25-06AI, if i can build a barrel without the locking shoudler it would mean i can set it back and not have to throw the barrel. I do like the SAC idea of running a radiused ball cutter through for the shank to act as a shoudler too.
