other older calibres.....30-06 and others

Post by aussiebob »

Now that my registration issues are starting to be smoothed out has anyone herd of conversions for the 25-06, 270win and 30-06 case line I assume that the hard part would be the bolt face to sute as I have heaps of 270 win cases around 600 and as well as powder and a good set of dies and heaps of projectiles am a fan of the calibre and am keen to get a conversion as it's flat shooting hard hitting and relatively cheap to shoot any thoughts.......

Hay bob,

I worked out a list a way back and the possible configurations with custom barrels was around 60 calibres using just the 3 available bolt faces. Mark at SAC has almost completed his new .223/300Blk and it will have the new bolt face. With the new remove able bolt head on the new A1's I guess anything is possible if you have someone competent enough to tool up a new bolt head. It all comes down to money.

doesnt it always. but i realy do enjoy my 270 as its sighted in for 100m and i can use the 3rd mildot down at 500m with a 130grn projectile and its dead on and even factory loads are about as much as 308 so thats one reason im keen on it as most things in the 1000yd plus catigory are up there when it comes to ammo prices and its alos readaly avalable which is nice when you run out of ammo on a hunt

You have to keep the magazine in mind as well as with the shoulders keeping the roudns from moving forward it can cause issues with other cases, mainly improved ones. For a 30-06 case i guess you would be starting with a 300WM magazine and playing with the lips to make them work.

Thanks seddo hadn't actually thought of that I was too focused on the barrel and bolt the 270 is a fair amount longer than 308 but it has the same profile on the sholder so are the magazine spacers removable. I can get on the mill or sheet metal folder have a play. made some Lakefield 10 round banana mags for my 22lr from scratch I'm sure I can make up some prototypes till one feeds properly I have a 270 win rough and finishing ream from building my current 270 so I'm keen just need to get this chassis in my hand
