Can't wait for a range report of the 375.

I run 105amax in my 243 and have been playing with mild 250smk loads in the lap mag. I might get some of the hornady a and give them a run.

Any starting loads with the 285 Hornadys orkan?

Retumbo, lapua brass, cci250.

Start 10thou off the lands. 91gr retumbo, and work up. You'll probably hit the sweet spot between 93 and 94gr. 93gr is 2800fps out of my DTA. Start at 88gr if you really want to be cautious.

im also using the 285 hornady with h1000 in my .338lm
. this was a ladder test i did last week it was 15 shells starting at 83 grains and going to 90 grains i cant believe how good of a group i got with that big of a variance of grains. i love my DTA

A stock 338LM will never be an authority at 2000yds, but to a mile it can get it done fairly effectively. From a trajectory standpoint, a 300gr pill just can't be launched fast enough out of a standard 26" barrel to really shine. A 338 edge, or allen magnum can get it going fast enough... but just barely.

250's on the other hand are too light for reliable hits at a mile.

My perfect bullet has been found in the 285 hornady. Excellent performance on big game and supremely accurate without really having to work at it. It is by far and above the most forgiving bullet I've ever used in 338LM. I spent a great deal of time with 300SMK's and 300 scenars only to be left unsatisfied and with a sore shoulder to boot. I moved to the 250's only to be more unsatisfied.

I truly believe the hornady 285 to be the magic stuff for 338LM.

grafs are out of 285 hornadys (and loits of other things). looks like everyuone in the USA is stocking up!!

300wm will shoot just about any thing you put down the tube. but my go to is the 208a-max and the 225 bthp from hornady. with a moderate load you can get these to a mile with good results. the 225gr over retumbo will get you around 2830fps, that will shoot inside the 338lap to 1500meters(250gr or 300gr). the 200gr game king is my elk bullet, I have herd the 208a-max has some penetration issues, not fact only what I have herd. so I stay with the time tested game king. 155gr a-max over h4831 is a flat shooting varmint frags, and has little recoil. bullets that don't shoot: all the berger VLD's( f#$k the vld). I have had good luck with everything but the vld, called berger for advice, they told me some tricks to get them to shoot but for the life of me I could not get a good group and after 300 rounds I gave up.

as a side note, hornady gives you a modest B.C. expect better wind and drop then the numbers tell you. on the other hand berger's advertised B.C. is high, sometimes really high compared to what happens downrange. the 208gr a-max had 54.25moa drop @1770y the 210 VLD had 56.5moa drop, they were both within 20fps of each other. 208 a-max has a .327 G7 b.c. and the 225 bthp has a .341 G7 or that's what works for me. plus hornady is a lot cheaper then any other match bullet so I can shoot more!!!!!!!! making ME a better shot. if I can't hold under 1/2moa how am I going to tell one bullet from another?

Just had a great range day. Shot my best 5 shot group ever and it was at 200 meters. All 5 rounds fit under a 5 cent piece. It's taken a lot of development to get this going this well.

Great group brad, better than i have done with my DTA so far. My best is around 1" at 300y.

How does the Sledge group? Lilja have posted my 30" 375 barrel so a sledge barrel for my dta wont be too far off!!

Mate still haven't been out to the property to test it other than the couple of rounds I fired before. Too many fun police and the ranges really get cranky when it's over 8mm. Now that Easter is over and things aren't as full on at work I am hoping to get out and play with it. I was getting a little annoyed that its taken so long and now an issue with time is stopping me. Snag has invited me out to his range that's 40 min from my place and he has a section set up for 2500 meters. I would probably spend more time playing withs his DSR-1 than shooting my own. Have access to another property now that mates parents own and only use to holiday on that has sections that I could never shoot beyond, some serious range but 4+ hrs away.

I will put it on my priority list to get some time with the Sledge in the next month. We have an addition to the family on the way in June so that will really limit my time for awhile so better do it soon.

It's getting to the stage where I'm looking for places to shoot that I would even pay to use. Not many places now with 1000+ meters available to a shooting friendly people.

For .308 175 SMK or 175 Berger OTM or 175 Nosler Custom Competition. Just be careful with OAL. My particular .308 conversion really likes 0.010 off the lands and each of these bullets seat differently. All these bullets group under .5" when I do my job. I've been using Varget (43.3 gr) so far. I also found another potential node at 44.2 gr. I can't wait for Reloader 15 to return to Canada so that I can refine this load.
