AR2225 is Retumbo, as Seddo mentioned. I didn't try AR2217, though perhaps I should have started there. I just figured after three good powders and still no decent groups, that I was SOL with that bullet. After several months I was just ready to throw in the towel because I was extremely frustrated. Trust me - this experience had me completely rethinking how I was loading. And the last straw was my 6.5x47L load which finalized into hands-down the most accurate consistent load I've ever developed in 10+ years of reloading. So you can imagine my frustration?

ETA: if you end up getting the 285 to shoot well and want more of them, I've got my remaining rounds on TradeMe

I use 285 grain hornady BTHP and 87.5 grains of Hornady h1000 with greats results in my .338lm.
the only problem i have had is ejecting problems. The DTA ejector isn't the greatest design and spent cases stick some times.it doesn't mater what factory ammo i use or if I use my loads.

Intersting, I have never had a case stick

Would you believe i broke a shell holder? I did some chrono work with them but when i went to load them to run them past 1000y i broke the shell holder and i haven't been out there to shoot since.

I got them around 2750fps but i cant remember if that was with 2217(H1000) or 2225 (retumbo), i will have to check my notes when i get home. In the same session i got the 250SMK's to 2994fps.

Hi Guys,

Went out yesterday and broke the 338LM barrel in with 60rds.

Loaded 40rds with 285gr BTHP and 85-93gr of AR2225 (retumbo).

Best group was 0.5moa with 93gr of AR2225 using lapua brass and CCI primers.

That was what was suggested earlier on this forum. All the loads performed well and my buddy got the best group so I think just about any charge with 2225 and 285's is going to perfom.

I was the limitation for accuracy not the gun. Had some bad heat shimmer for most of the shoot too which made a difference with the 6.5x47 as well.
