HTI with smaller caliber capabilities, 338LM....

Post by Extreme454 »

Myself and a few shooting buddies have concluded what we feel would be the ultimate chassis set up.....

Like the title says. An HTI chassis that can accept 338 lapua conversions. Even better, would be all the short action calibers too.

We all want an HTI for the Cheytac, 50 BMG, etc.... But we also want smaller calibers to shoot more often without all the expense, recoil, etc.... Obviously, owning a Covert or SRS, and an HTI would be awesome, but that would be two chassis and two optics. I wish, just can't justify it.

So , I'm sure , it's mechanically impossible, but, the thread topic was 'wish list' .

Imagine , one optic, one chassis, with pretty much every caliber covered!

Do you really want to lug around a 25lb 308?

Not me.

I have no issue at all with 2 chassis. One for the big boys, one for the... not-so-big boys. ;)

One chassis would be good down here as then you won't need to justify the second chassis to the fun police who look for any reason to say no. Adding another barrel to your current registration is easier than getting another rifle.

Brad,

I had a chat to the RFO about the DTA. He said the ruling in Victoria is the rifle is registered in the first calibre you buy it, any additional barrels dont have to be recorded as there is no where in the victorian system to put them. Got to love National Gun Laws.

Pretty terrible what you guys in kangaroo land have to put up with. I'm glad the DTA will help you get one by on them though!

Same here in NZ - bringing my SRS over from the States, they only look at the largest cartridge and basically ignore the rest. Although I discovered that bringing my Covert conversion is a no-no because the NZ Arms Code classifies any firearm shorter than 762mm (30in) as a pistol, requiring a special Cat B license (not impossible to acquire but not easy either). So it's full length SRS for me over here. At least suppressors are unregulated :)

The laws in NSW are more severe, I just had to have both my barrels engraved with numbers as the law states any spare barrel that can be fitted and capable of firing must bear a registration number and be linked to your licence. The second I slipped out the original 308 barrel and dropped in the sledgehammer I could have been committing an offence under NSW law. Lucky I don't have my bolt still as technically a can't fire the sledge, but that would have been an annoying fight in court if the point was pushed. So both barrels are SRS0*******-1 and -2, my chassis number and barrel number.

Stupid technicalities.

That is indeed one awesome thing you have going for you!

The suppressor regulations in this country are a friggin JOKE! I have absolutely zero faith in the majority of the American population anymore. Not after recent events.

I'm hoping an asteroid hits the ocean and wipes out the coasts. ;)

Interesting Scott, I had it form LRD that it must be registered in the LARGEST calibre be registered! Hence in my case 338 lap. If I get a sledgehammer on the girl, I have to change it to 375 sledge on the registration and the reference for 338lm is removed.

Not even LRD can give a consistent response
