Trigger not engaging???

I need some advice. At today's tactical match here in Albuquerque, I start the day off with my cold bore shot--dead center! Good start.

The next stage, my trigger seems to be broken(not engaging the bolt). My match is over.

I came home, took the skins off and broke it down and I hear a "rattling" sound. I'll try to describe it the best I can, but I don't know the correct terminology.

There is a silver pin on the side of the trigger that seems to hold a small bar in place. Nothing is keeping this silver pin pushed outward and holding the bar in place. The small bar(maybe 5 inches long) is the part that was rattling.

Something is broken somewhere. I think there may be a spring that pushes that silver pin outward and that may have broken. Not sure.

I can't seem to find an exploded diagram of the SRS rifle. So I'm not sure of any of this.

My question is....has anyone else had this happen to them?? Is there a simple fix?

I will contact Joe in warranty on Monday. I'm just little OCD when it comes to my DTAs.

Thanks for any advice or guidance. It will get fixed sonner or later. I've just never had a "bolt gun" break before. Strange and annoying, all at once.

UPDATE!

Houston- we have a problem!

As I describe this, please bear with me. My technical terminolgy is seriously flawed.

After you take your skins off, you will be able to look at your trigger group. When you pull the trigger, there is a small silver pin that toggles a 5" bar, that I assume disengages the sear.

This small silver pin is punched/tagged so it SHOULD NOT MOVE. But here is my problem...mine came loose. Overall, this is not a huge issue, because I believe it doesn't happen often and it seems I can fix it easily.

My problem/issue is this: it DID HAPPEN. And I was at a match when it happened. This worries me. Do I need to take an extra chassis with me to all matches???? And with issues like this, it would worry me that DTA ever made it into the hands of our military

All this said, DTA is my FAVORITE gun!!! Hands down.

I have every confidence in the world that DTA's warranty department will take care of my every need, as they have done before. These guns are my tools. And tools break and alter. Just be aware that if for some reason you loose your trigger, this could be your resolution.

I know the part you are referring to.

Did the housing the pin squeezes into crack, or did the pin just fall out? I just finished up an armorers course at DTA, and that pin was in there uber tight on the rifle we were working on. To the point where you would need a special punch block to safely remove it.

Perhaps there is an easy change that could be implemented where it would be more than just a press-fit.

That little silver pin just slides back and forth. I don't think the housing is cracked. When it happened on Saturday, the pin had slid out entirely and it wasn't connecting with the bar at all.

How should I fix this to prevent it from happening again??

Would "loc-tite" work??

I wouldn't use loc-tite. You'll want a permanent epoxy.

That pin doesn't need to come out to completely disassemble the rest of the trigger group, so I'd use something like gorilla glue. It holds like epoxy, but isn't brittle. I've used it on bowfishing arrow heads, and it will take a pounding. That's if you don't want to send the rifle back to DTA for warranty work. Doubt that pin would ever come out again after gorilla glued. ... ever.

The dowell pin is supposed to be press fit into the trigger lever, it sounds like your pin is slip fit which is not correct, your trigger lever will need to be replaced. Joe can get you taken care of, you should be able to just send in the trigger assembly instead of the whole rifle.

You could do a permanent epoxy if you like that will work very well too. Gorilla glue will work great just wipe the excess off cuz it likes to grow.

Exactly...called Joe and he had me send in the trigger housing and promised to have it back to me within a few days. DTA warranty department takes care of their customers!!!

Lesson learned--along with assorted wrenches, hexes, and screwdrivers.....keep some gorilla glue in your repair kit. You never know!
