It's going to kick like a beast now, that's why I stole the muzzle brake off an old howitzer and the more weight the better. I have been delayed pulling the trigger until Saturday morning now. It's like waiting for Christmas and being told you can't open your presents till after dinner

Actually got a chance to fire the Sledgehammer today, only went for two rounds loaded with the 260gr Nosler Accubonds. I must say I was very supprised, the recoil was nothing like I would have ever expected, there was no sharp kick or pounding force on my shoulder, it was just a push. The muzzle brake from Grizzly Gunworks really did the job, I'm glad I went for their ultimate brake not the standard one they make for the DTA.

One thing it was more of a boom than a quick snap bang (its hard to explain). My mate couldn't make it to film the first fire so hopefully next time then.

Anyone who does get a conversion that DTA doesn't make I would recommend Mark from Short Action Customs, great work and a no BS guy.

Figured I would post this up, nothing fancy about it yet, I have custom paint job planned for it by a (semi) local Cerakote applicator who some on this forum know and use (I cerakote everything, the coater has currently got not 1, not 2, but 8 of my guns to be done, plus several other parts such as buffer tubes and even the clutch handle for my winch), but I am not going to disclose what the paint job is until its done as I am pretty sure it will be unique. Well the pattern is not unique, neither are the colours, but the combination of the two will be. In fact I plan to get all 3 of my "big rigs" done in the same pattern simultaneously.

Currently this be being held up as I am waiting to be able to get my hands on some of the A1 Parts, namely the fore end, butt pad and the cheek rest to convert it to A1 spec. Once that is complete and the last few conversions I want are in my possession and the last of the three "big rigs" are complete the paint will be going on.

As it sits this is it, nothing special really, DTA, 338LM conversion, S&B PMII 5.5-25x56 P4 Fine Illuminated, ATLAS bipod, which I am going to switch out for a GG&G when I can get my hands on one with them now refusing to ship internationally its a pain in the arse, all over a bipod.

I see your using the Barrett Ex-Rings, I found them a little high so I ended up selling them and getting a DTA mount, I wouldn't have minded a Spuhr mount though.

Yeh, they are a little high but I was/am considering the BORS, but in all honesty I will probably forgo that and just do what you did and get the DTA or Spuhr mounts, but I will see what happens after I get it milled to accept the cheek rest, but as I am considering getting the Kahles/DTA scope I will change them both at the same time, want to really get my hands on the scope though before I commit, currently I need 2 S&B's to finish of the "Big Rigs" if I go Kahles I need 3 of them and to sell the S&B so a little more work involved

In my opinion I would avoid the BORS. I have owned one and it was a waste of time. I doesn't read wind and makes you a lazy shooter. Sure it works but so does a good drop chart sticky tapped to your rile. I sold mine as in the end I didn't even turn it on any more. They are a pain in the A also, every time I used it I had to wait for it to settle and reach current temps (after pulling it out of my pelican case). 2K on a BORS so a little box can tell you your elevation that a iphone app can do for 1/100 the price. It's old tech and has made no advancement in too many years.

Seriously, I would just buy a angle cosine mount, a kestrel, the Ballistic FTE app and a good range finder, it's money better spent.

I have had the BORS give false readings as the little rubber grommet under the unit that covers the sensors come loose when using on my Lapua and it all of a sudden read incorrect ranges.

Again this is just my opinion and from personal experience with the unit. Yeah when it worked your elevation was ok, but you still need to read the wind and adjust for it. While your adjusting for wind from your data you may as well have used your data for range and saved the money.

Shadow you can already shoot so it would probably be wasted on you.

As I have said in other threads, like you I didn't like mine, and it was a waste for an AI that only a single calibre and could be easily (and more cheaply, and much lighter) taken care of with drop tables, in the end like you I just didn't turn it on, and I ended up selling it and the NF is was mounted to. For me it was a case of a second chance and only then because it was going to be easier to use on a multi-calibre rifle.

Interesting on the incorrect readings for the rubber grommet.

For me what really "got my goat" about the BORS is the lack of integrated range finder, you drop 2K on a "Ballistics Computer" and I don't know about you but I want it to have a damn range finder.

Kestral I will be purchasing, just keeps getting put off currently, as for the app, I will probably stick with FFS Delta V as that is what my training is on (well my training is on IV, but I wanted the extra functions of V) that's assuming I go that route and don't just make drop tables manually
