Burris Laserscopes

Post by Nicholas »

We tried to patent the idea of an autocompensating laserscope four years ago that utilized a holographic aiming system just like this. It's a neat idea I have one coming my way to play with. Unfortunately it has MIl reticle and MOA knobs and only 40 MOA of elevation travel. But the auto sighting feature is worth checking out for me. Hope the laser really ranges to 1200 yards. Anyone else played with these?

anything that takes some of the math and/or guesswork out of the equation is appreciated by this noob as long as the reads are decently accurate!

Russ took one out today said the laser works out to 850 yards pretty good and the drop compensation is spot on with his 7 wsm out to that distance.

The concept is fantastic, just not executed to it's full potential yet.

sounds a bit like the BORS in that, the BORS had so much (wasted) potential, for one it needed an in built laser range finder

I agree the BORS concept was haphazard and missed so much more that it could have been.

Well, I have about 100 rounds through the 7WSM under this scope and I have to admit. I am liking it.

After zeroing the scope dead on at 100 yards I put the required information into the program setup of the scope which was extremely easy seeing as how I didn't bring the instructions to the range with me. Put the drop at 750 yards in and lased a target at 404 yards. There was a 10-15 mph wind gusting and I smacked the target with no issue.

Then I lased a rock at 810 about the size of a basketball. Held where the scope told me to for elevation and wind and hit the top edge of the rock.

Next day we went out and I lased the target at 479 yards, one shot, hit.
Drove to 566, 1 shot, hit.
Drove to 717, 1 shot, hit.
...........850, 1 shot, hit.
...........918, 1 shot, hit.

The 850 and 918 yard shots were higher than the sub 750 yard shots. The instructions said that slight refining of the drop can be done to dial it in even more.

On Thursday we were out and I lased a rock at 1040 and shot. It was slightly high. I adjusted the software a couple numbers and hit the rock. Then started hitting multiple rocks at varying distances.

A little later that Thursday Dan and Mike set out a target at 768 yards and taped a knife to the head of the silhouette target......whole nother story..... I lased the target, determined the wind was about 5-7 from the right and shot the knife off the target. I didn't HIT the knife, but was very close. Then followed that up with a group on the torso. The elevation at 768 was EXACTLY where I was holding and a couple inches to the right, that was my wind hold.

I'm impressed with the scope. It's isn't German glass, but it isn't bad. The speed for target engagement is insane though. I wish the laser was of higher quality, sometimes its a bit hard to get a reading depending on the target you are lasing.

I'll keep playing with it and see what all it can do.
