DTA Sponsors IMFDB Overhaul

The Internet Movie Firearms Database (IMFDB) hosts a giant wiki of firearms used in various movie, tv, video game and other pop culture appearances.

Chances are, by now you’ve heard of the Internet Movie Firearms Database (IMFDB). If not, the easiest way to describe it would be by saying it’s a giant catalog of firearms appearing in on-screen productions.

You can find guns used in tv shows, movies and even video games. Simply run a search for a certain firearm, and click through to see every production that it’s been in.

It’s been a fun site to cross-reference, and grown a lot over the years. After several years of cataloging data, however, the IMFDB is overhauling their website. Why? 3 main reasons:

  1. IMFDB LogoThe site’s pages are extremely hard to edit.
  2. The search feature sucks.
  3. The site’s page designs are inconsistent with each other.

In an effort to gain support for their project, the site’s owners have launched a RocketHub crowd-funding initiative, and contacted Desert Tactical Arms and asked if we’d be willing to support the effort, by donating a “behind the scenes” tour of our headquarters and manufacturing facility.

We have agreed, and are officially on the RocketHub prize list!

So if you’ve ever wanted to come spend a day seeing the ins and outs of our facility, and hang with the DTA crew, this could be you. In addition to our BTS tour, there are some other really cool prizes being put up as well.

Although we didn’t start it, it looks like the SRS has a humble but growing little page on IMFDB. Many times we aren’t aware of where the guns have made appearances until people let us know. Check out the SRS page here, and let us know in the comments if you think there are others that aren’t on the list.

You can also make changes to the page directly (just like Wikipedia), but it’s not the most user-friendly site to edit (one of the reasons for the upgrade).

While it’s not our top priority to get the guns cast in movies, it’s been fun to see them getting some air time, and a nice indicator that more and more people are taking notice. Hopefully we’ll see some more of these as time goes on.
