New Shooter Dan – 1 Year Update
Hey Guys,
It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on my “new shooter journey”, so today I thought I’d just thought I’d make a quick little entry.
It’s been a year since I started working at DTA (actually a year and a month!)
In the very early days of working here, Nick and Russ and a handful of the guys here were asking if I was going to learn how to shoot long range. To that point, I had very little experience with firearms, didn’t own any, and certainly hadn’t ever done any kind of long range shooting.
I said I was game, and since that time have had a handful of experiences being able to get behind the guns and get a little bit familiar with them.
- Took a Precision Rifle 1 Course (using the Covert)
- Caribou hunt in Alaska
- 3,080 Yard shoot
- Attended SHOT Show 2013 with the team in Las Vegas
…to name a few.
As pretty much everybody knows, since December of 2012, our industry has experienced supply shortages almost never before seen, particularly with ammunition. This has put a damper on the shooting excursions around here in a pretty big way.
Accordingly, I haven’t been able to get out quite as much in the past several months. Over this next year however, that should change as the supply chains start to loosen up.
I drew out for a rifle buck this deer season, so I’ll be heading out on my 2nd hunt in October. Other than that however, I don’t really have anything specific scheduled in the shooting department. So my question is:
What should I be working on in my second year to continue the progress?
- specific goals or milestones?
- classes
- exercises to work on?
Let me know! Love to hear what it was that helped you really tighten up the shooting.
I’ll try to get the camera out and run some more video when I do get out, so anybody that’s interested can follow along.
-Dan
