An update on the shipment of the Quattro-15 family of products

Hello Desert Tech customers! I wanted to keep you up to date on when you can expect your Quattro-15 family of products, including the Quattro-15 lower receiver, QMAG-53 magazine, Load Out Kit, and Magwell Adapter Kit for using standard magazines.

Our initial testing of our pilot batch of Quattro-15's and QMAG-53’s saw thousands of rounds of test fire before we moved into the production phase.

Early 2024

Often, early stages of the production phase surfaces new constraints or unforeseen deviations from the tolerances observed in a pilot batch. And while we have met most of the goals initially outlined in our launch, we have had some setbacks in ramping-up to full production. And the bottom line is that we intend to fulfill all preorders and our current backlog by early 2024.

We want to be transparent with our customers. And the following is a recap of our experiences with the Quattro-15 and QMAG-53 from pilot through production.

Initial Pilot Batch Testing

  • Each Quattro-15 and QMAG-53 saw thousands of rounds of fire.
  • A select number of receivers and mags were tested with full auto fire.
  • QMAG-53’s were tested suppressed and unsuppressed.
  • QMAG-53 was subjected to several military style drop tests and passed with flying colors.

Start of Production

The start of production surfaced some new concerns that we needed to address before we could really ramp up:

  • We observed cosmetic blemishes on early batches of Quattro-15's received from our anodizer.
  • Quality inspections revealed that a small percentage of injection molded parts were not within specifications. We therefore tightened manufacturing tolerances and scaled back our initial production run.

Public Feedback

  • A number of reviews of pre-production versions of the Quattro-15 and QMAG-53 have been published.
  • @AlabamaArsenal highlighted the benefits of ambidextrous controls on the Quattro-15 and the how the QMAG-53 keeps debris out of the receiver. And they fired .300 BLK using a QMAG-53 and Quattro-15. (disclaimer: the QMAG-53 is designed for 5.56 only, so we cannot guarantee performance with .300 BLK)
  • @InRangeTV highlighted the form factor of the QMAG-53: how it's easy to carry and increases your capacity, and reduces the number of reloads needed for a standard loadout. And they pointed out that the QMAG-53 is easier to load than other similar-capacity magazines.
  • @ModernTacticalShooting spoke to the benefits of using a Quattro-15 in combat, because of the added capacity of the QMAG-53 and the reduced number of reloads.
QMAG priced very affordably compared to the D60 and Surefire 60 rd Mag.

New buffer spring recommendation

After receiving feedback from our reviewers and field testers using various buffer springs, we have decided to recommend using an H2 buffer over lighter or hydraulic buffers, to avoid unnecessary misfeeds as well as maintain the reliability of the QMAG-53.

Unrivaled Performance?

Am I disappointed? I truly believed we would have had more Quattro-15's and QMAG-53's in your hands by Thanksgiving. And it's not fun admitting we didn't reach 100% of our goal. Here at Desert Tech, we plan for and expect success.

We also have a passion for performance. Performance is not perfection. Performance is a measure of how well we do based on our skills, efforts, and receptiveness to feedback that improves the personal defense products we deliver to Military, Police, Security, Competitors, Hunters, Sportsmen, and law-abiding citizens world-wide.

I welcome your feedback and comments. Email me at marketing@deserttech.com and put Quattro-15 Feedback in the subject line.

Best,
